PPA Winners of Minnesota!

Federico is fairly consistent in his singles career, who doesn’t love to see it?!

Salome beat Parris Todd in the finals, to be yet another diamond in the rough, now with a gold medal has got to be so rewarding!

We all know this is the most smiley team on the tour and we all love it!

This is a new duo! Rohrabacher came somewhat out of nowhere and here she is winning with Anna Bright!

Alshon was chosen as the most improved player on the tour! This is his perfect opportunity to prove that! Even with him switching paddles so soon, he still shines. Look how happy he is! All the hard work, and dedication has paid off. He may have a signature paddle coming…..

With the upcoming tournament and the #1 Seed’s back in the scene, who knows….. Maybe some of these winners will come back to the main stage!

I think we all know who Ronbus is! They are one of the high quality, yet budget friendly paddle options in today’s market. Yet, with thermoformed paddles, most people know they will all eventually delaminate or core crush, making them illegal.

BUT - With Ronbus’ Nova series, they did something different. They made slits in the edge of the paddle after it gets heat pressed (thermoformed). This makes it so there’s no air pockets in the paddle face and lets the core release pressure. Their goal with the Nova series was to eliminate core issues, and so far, they have done it! Granted, the Nova series is directly in the middle of Gen 1 carbon fiber sandwich paddles, and Gen 2 thermoformed paddles which tend to be much poppier. Some say this is a Gen 3 paddle!

Our RPM test came out to - 1799

This is actually surprisingly on the lower end compared to their other paddles. Now, the standard top tier spin reaches around 2,000+ rpms.

Their Swing Weight test came out to - 120

120 Swing Weight is actually the standard for elongated paddles. If you use the Perseus, Legacy Pro, or other elongated thermoformed paddles, this will feel similar in your hand speed.

Paddle Features and Technologies

  • R3 Nova solves the “crushed core” issue with its Gen 3 air permeable edge grid technology, releasing internal pressure during 360 unibody thermoforming

  • Edge grid density and layup are specially tuned to make the paddle even more powerful than Gen 2 under high swing speeds, while maintaining control for the soft game and having a uniquely crisp feel

  • Increased sweet spot area via foamed edge and perimeter weighting

  • Raw Toray T700 carbon fiber with longer lasting, finer textured finish provides maximum spin

  • Extra-long handle ideal for two-handed backhand

Tip #1 - Don’t Hit Backspin Volleys - Do Hit Topspin Volleys

Putting backspin on your volleys will make the ball float, more often leading to a pop up, or into the net. Using top spin will keep your balls lower, and actually dip towards your opponent’s feet.

Tip #2 - Don’t Rip Your Return - Do Hit the Ball a Little Higher & Deeper

Ripping your return will yes, keep it deep, but the ball moves so fast that it gives you a small window of time to get to the kitchen. Likely putting you on defense. Giving yourself a nice arch, and slower speed to your return will give you more time to get to the kitchen, even if your return happens to be short.

Tip #3 - Don’t Step Forward Into Our Volleys - Do Keep Your Feet Behind The Kitchen

In tennis, you can serve the ball and run straight to the net, but not in pickleball! So you want to stay put, and compact with your volleys to stay away from the kitchen line with your feet. It will take time, but most people have a natural mental image of where the line is while they’re on the court.
