Vanguard Pro, Tips, Strategies, & Consistency!

Welcome To Your Pickleball Journey!

Tip #1 - How To Correctly Utilize a Lob!

Pretend your lobs are just another form of a dink! Yes, a more aggressive type of dink, but it’s a follow through motion that will lift over your opponents, instead of lifting the ball over the net for a dink!

Usually, you want to aim for your opponent’s backhand side!

Tip #2 - Don’t Put So Much Spin On Your Dinks!

While dinking you’re not fully able to generate an immaculate amount of spin enough to matter at a certain point in skill level! Unless you become choppy with your dinks. Being choppy with your dinks can cause you to use more wrist, or simply pop up a ball!

Locking your wrist will allow you to stay consistent, even when you’re dinking cross court! You will naturally apply spin with correct form and footwork!

Drill #3 - Don’t Fall Back When Hitting a Drop!

Falling back while hitting drops is a cause for disaster! Stay consistent in your motions, moving a little bit forward for your drop, or in a neutral position is important.

Don’t take too big of swings, keep it simple, and keep the ball in front of you! Always follow through!

Tip #1 - Hit To Your Opponent’s Backhands!

Most people know this tip but forget it when they get on the court! When it comes to serves, go to their backhand, when it comes to returns, BACKHAND!

Placing most of your shots at an opponent’s backhand will usually be the average person’s weakest side, causing pop ups, catch them off balance, or just simply not enough stability and comfortability in their game!

Tip #2 - Don’t Miss Your Third Shot!

Whether you drive it or drop it - as long as you get the ball over and in, you’re still in the game without giving away free points! Getting just 1 more ball back, has the potential to change your confidence, and momentum!

Give yourself a chance to get to the kitchen!

Tip #2 - Attack When the Ball Is High & Reset When It’s Low!

Always pay attention to the height of the ball, recognizing what is attackable and what isn’t! Capitalizing on your opponent’s mistakes and neutralizing your own can win you games!

Don’t be too afraid of attacking balls you’re uncomfortable with or not used to, that’s just another opportunity to improve!

Tip #1 - Spin Continuation!

Your opponent’s backspin is YOUR topspin! Your opponent’s topspin is YOUR backspin!

Noticing your opponent’s spin in game can be highly beneficial for you in the long run! You can use their spin against them, but it can also be a detriment if you don’t know how to handle it!

Tip #2 - Timing!

It is best to hit the ball after it has PEAKED off of a bounce! Not only does this give you more time to adjust your footwork, paddle position, and give yourself a calmer, patient mindset!

Waiting for the peak of the ball usually takes pace, and spin off of the ball, making your shot simply easier!

Tip #3 - Post-Shot Focus!

It is vital to your success at a high level to be prepared for your opponent’s next shot, even though you thought you hit a winner! The better your opponents are, the more amazing shots they’ll get back, stay in it, stay low, and stay calm!

Being too antsy or hyper while a chaotic point is going on, can cost you not only confidence, but momentum in a game! Especially when you want to compete at high levels!
